Laurel Anne Stowe
Intimacy Choreographer, Consultant, & Educator
IT IS MY GOAL TO CREATE A SAFER, SECURE, AND BRAVE SPACE FOR ALL by supporting THE ACTORS, DIRECTORS, AND PRODUCTION TEAM TO SERVE THE STORY while also protecting the most vulernable in the room.
Intimacy Choreography is the creative
and technical process used to portray
both physical and emotional intimacy,
nudity, and sexual violence on stage.
However, it extends beyond sexual
content alone and encompasses
aspects like race, disability, religion, or
age.
My job is to choreograph intimacy that
ensures that the production staff,
director, and actors are provided with
solid techniques to excel at delivering
impactful and compelling narratives,
while protecting the most vulnerable in
the room.
- What is intimacy choreography
What I do
- Consulting:
- Education:
- Choreography:
I use a consent based, trauma informed process. I work with actors within their boundaries, using de-loaded, de-sexualized language to choreograph scenes of an intimate nature
I work with your administrators to create best practices, sample audition forms, disclosure forms, riders, and policy for your theater.
I host educational workshops for directors, educators, or students to teach the basic principals and techniques of intimacy choreography.
My Practice
- Documentation:
- Trauma Informed:
I work with the consent and within the boundaries of not only the actors involved, but the whole production team. Consent is contextual, conditional and revocable. Boundaries change : and everyone's boundaries are perfect exactly where they are!
I use de-loaded and de-sexualized language.
All choreography is documented.
